The Lawson Counseling Center
The Lawson Counseling Center (LCC) was born out of many years of dedication to the field of mental health. The LCC is committed to serving adolescents, adults, and young couples in order to assist them in growing, learning, and striving for a healthy self.
What is counseling? Counseling is sometimes referred to as psychotherapy or therapy. Essentially, counseling is a collaboration between the counselor and the client in order to identify goals and potential solutions to problems which are causing emotional turmoil. The hope is that by engaging in counseling, a client will improve their coping and communication skills, strengthen their self esteem, promote and improve their emotional, spiritual, and mental health.
In this practice, we work hard to listen to you compassionately, to gently encourage and guide you, and to assist you in exploring alternate ways of thinking and behaving. Everyone’s goals in counseling are different, therefore a variety of treatment approaches are utilized depending on your unique treatment plan. Approaches include, but are not limited to, Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Person Centered Therapy (We know these titles may not make sense to everyone- if you ever have questions about treatment approaches, we would love to help answer them). For anyone who is interested, the use of art, music, walk-and-talks, and other creative approaches are always encouraged and utilized in this practice!
Our faith is important to us. We encourage you to explore your own faith and spiritual practices in the safe context of counseling. We may share the same foundational beliefs, or we may differ (that’s ok!). Regardless, we hope this is a healthy space to explore all sides of ourselves, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually, together.
